Freezer and Freezer Column Repair
Frost that comes back after you clear it is not a freezer that is failing. It is a defrost cycle that starts and never gets to the end of its job, and clearing the ice by hand treats the picture and tells you nothing. The useful observation is where the ice is sitting before you touch it. An even sheet across the rear panel is the evaporator behind it. A ridge along the bottom of the door is the gasket. A block around the drain is the drain. Three different repairs, and a photograph taken before the towels come out decides which one.

This fault degrades rather than fails, which is why it is usually reported late. Once the evaporator carries a shell of ice the shell acts as insulation, less air moves through the coil each week, and the compartment loses a degree at a time while the display keeps reporting the number it was set to. Owners describe it as gradually getting worse rather than breaking, and by the time the top shelf is soft the coil has been iced for a month. Clear it with warm water and towels rather than a scraper or a heat gun while you wait: the evaporator is aluminum tube and fin, and a punctured coil turns a heater replacement into sealed-system work.
